Design Shine 2024: Call for Submissions!
AIA Austin Emerging Professionals is excited to announce the return of Design Shine at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden opening December 9, 2024 and on view til April. We invite all emerging professionals, local architects, landscape architects, artists, and designers to submit ideas for an art installation that can be enjoyed both day and night. The aim this year is to have a more intimate installation experience, with a lighter workload than previous years. Selected designers will receive a stipend up to $750. The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Aug 19, 2024.
Design Shine, a collaboration between the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum and the AIA Austin Emerging Professionals Committee (AIA EP), explores innovative design and artistic creativity. Through exhibitions, panel discussions, design charrettes, and competitions, Design Shine aims to highlight the importance of outdoor community spaces and provide opportunities for young designers to showcase their talents.
This year’s theme is “Sit with Us”. Participants are challenged to design a chair that transcends its traditional purpose, becoming a captivating art piece that enhances its surroundings. Designs should embody innovation, aesthetic appeal, and a deep connection to the environment. Chairs should evoke emotion, provoke thought, or tell a story through their design elements, materials, and interaction with space.
