AIA Austin WiA’s first read of the year will be Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People more than They Expect by Will Guidara is a book about transforming ordinary service into extraordinary experiences by anticipating and exceeding customer expectations, applicable to any industry, not just restaurants. It uses stories from Guidara’s career, including his time at Eleven Madison Park, to illustrate how to create a “hospitality-first culture” through empathy, attention to detail, and empowering staff to create memorable moments, like arranging a surprise sledding trip in Central Park for a family. The book argues that this approach builds loyalty and improves business by making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. This session of the AIA Austin WiA is led by Annemarie Diaz.
We’ll meet every other Thursday at 7:00pm via Zoom for ~45 minutes to chat and share insights. Our first session will kick off on Thursday, February 19th and continue biweekly.
