Founded in 2019 by Liz Lambert and Larry McGuire, Lambert McGuire Design (LMD) is an Austin-based interior architecture and design studio known for concept-driven, detail-focused work across hospitality, retail, and residential projects. Guided by deep experience in design and operations, the studio creates spaces that honor context while defining modern hospitality.

LMD partners closely with MML Hospitality—led by Liz, Larry, and Tom Moorman—whose award-winning restaurants and hotels are celebrated for their distinctive character and craft.

Role Summary:

The Managing Director is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall business performance, operational health, and team culture of the studio. This position oversees financial management, staffing, and process implementation to ensure the studio runs efficiently and profitably while upholding its creative standards. Working closely with the Design Principals, the Managing Director helps translate their creative vision into an organized, high-performing practice—building the systems, structure, and environment that enable design excellence.

While the studio maintains a close relationship with MML Hospitality, its sister company and a key client partner, the Managing Director’s role extends beyond that partnership. This leader will help shape and grow the studio’s broader portfolio—cultivating new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring consistent quality, profitability, and service across all projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Leadership: Oversee the financial health of the studio, including forecasting, profitability, and performance reporting, ensuring all projects meet business goals.
  • Operational Excellence: Build and manage systems, workflows, and resource planning to support efficiency, accountability, and quality across all phases of work.
  • Team Growth & Culture: Lead, mentor, and develop staff, fostering a culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and creative excellence.
  • Creative Alignment: Partner closely with the Design Principals to uphold and advance their creative vision, ensuring design intent is carried through to execution.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new project opportunities, expand client relationships, and position the studio for sustained, strategic growth beyond current partnerships.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with MML Hospitality leadership where applicable to align priorities, resources, and deliverables for shared projects.
  • External Representation: Serve as a trusted representative of the studio with clients, consultants, and industry peers, strengthening the firm’s reputation and presence in the market.
