A small East Austin lot, constrained by deep setbacks and a harsh western sun, became the proving ground for an ambitious yet compact urban compound rooted in material research and expressive forms.

The architects traveled to Arizona with the client and builders to learn rammed earth construction firsthand-a process that directly shaped the design. Sweeping rammed earth walls define the western facades, addressing solar heat gain through thermal mass while serving as the primary formal gesture. Compressed layers of earth read as stratigraphy- tactile and textural. Barrel-vaulted roofs clad in a soft green color reminiscent of the desert flora curve downward to become walls, reinforcing the sculptural, landform-like character-and adding a sense of volume to otherwise compact spaces. Sprinkles of yellow pop like small desert flowers.

Inside, white oak, terracotta, limewash, and custom steel speak of craft and material honesty through every detail.
