Pollen Architecture & Design was founded in 2008 with the intention to connect architecture with the natural environment, and to celebrate the collaborative nature of the design process. Their work draws from a modern formal language and emphasizes connections between indoors and out, daylighting and well-crafted details. Pollen is a full-service architecture firm, begun as design-build. Their work has won numerous awards and been published extensively. Principal Elizabeth Alford grew up in Austin and returned here after school and apprenticeship in New York. After focusing on creative workspace projects, since 2020 Pollen’s focus has shifted to houses. They are at work on a variety of new builds and renovation/additions in and around Austin, Sonoma & Chesapeake Bay. In addition, they take on a select number of commercial projects for some of Austin’s landmark companies. Pollen’s Balcones House was on the AIA Homes Tour in 2012 and they are pleased to be included again in 2024.
