In 2019, Side Angle Side was tasked with remodeling a 1935 bungalow and designing an ADU in the historic Rosewood neighborhood. Using old photos and drawings, the team rebuilt the home to keep with the original spirit and structure, while introducing a modern addition. The new U-shaped layout wraps around an existing tree, creating an outdoor gathering space visible from the home’s main living areas and filling the interior with natural light.
Salvaged materials from the original home, including trim, baseboards, interior doors, and longleaf pine floors, were restored and reused. New exterior siding and windows were detailed to match the original design creating a clear distinction between old and new from the outside. Inside, however, the modern addition seamlessly bleeds into the existing footprint, creating a cohesive flow. The home also incorporates creative areas for the growing family, including playful rooms and adaptable spaces that will stay relevant over time.
